The main component of Peregal O-3 is fatty alcohol polyoxyethylene (3) ether, a nonionic surfactant produced by condensation of C12-14 fatty alcohol as initiator with 3 moles of ethylene oxide.

Detailed Description

The chemical name of Peregal O-3 is fatty alcohol polyoxyethylene (3) ether, with INCI name Laureth-3 and CAS number 68439-49-6. This product is manufactured by Guoli Chemical using naturally derived C12-14 fatty alcohol as starter material, which undergoes addition polymerization with ethylene oxide. The general molecular structure formula can be expressed as C12-14H25-29O(C2H4O)3H.

From the perspective of composition structure, the molecule of Peregal O-3 is dominated by lipophilic long-chain alkyl groups, while also containing a short-chain hydrophilic group composed of 3 ethylene oxide units. This structural characteristic endows it with good lipophilicity and moderate hydrophilicity. In aqueous systems, it exists in a dispersed state rather than complete dissolution, making it particularly suitable for constructing water-in-oil (W/O) emulsion systems and exerting excellent wetting and spreading functions in processes such as degreasing, penetration, and leveling.

The active content of commercial Peregal O-3 reaches ≥99%. The product appearance is a colorless to slightly yellowish liquid or paste. Besides the main component fatty alcohol polyoxyethylene (3) ether, it contains only trace amounts of free alcohol (≤1.0%) and moisture (≤1.0%), essentially free of other functional additives, belonging to a high-purity, single-component nonionic surfactant.

Application Suggestions

As a pure fatty alcohol polyoxyethylene (3) ether product, the usage direction of Peregal O-3 in formulations is determined by its molecular structure: dominated by lipophilicity with a low HLB value (6.5~8.5), it is therefore more suitable for use as a water-in-oil emulsifier. In systems with a high oil phase ratio, such as pesticide emulsifiable concentrates, industrial lubricating emulsions, oil-based cleaning agents, and cosmetic creams, adding an appropriate amount of Peregal O-3 can yield a uniform and stable emulsion. In textile printing and dyeing, it can be used alone or in combination as a leveling agent and penetrating agent; in metal processing and industrial cleaning, it exerts excellent degreasing, emulsifying, wetting, and penetrating effects.

Precautions

  • Solubility Characteristics: Peregal O-3 is insoluble in water and exists in a dispersed state in water; it is soluble in organic solvents such as ethanol and acetone. When using, it is recommended to first disperse it in the oil phase or a co-solvent before adding to the aqueous system.
  • Irritation Protection: The product belongs to skin irritation Category 2 and eye irritation Category 2A. During handling, nitrile rubber gloves and chemical protective goggles must be worn to avoid direct contact.
  • Storage Conditions: Store sealed in a cool, dry, well-ventilated place at ambient temperature, with a shelf life of 24 months.
