OS-15 (AEO-15) is a non-ionic surfactant with the chemical name fatty alcohol polyoxyethylene (15) ether. It appears as a white waxy solid and exhibits excellent emulsifying, wetting, dispersing, and solubilizing properties. It is widely used in various fields such as industrial cleaning, textile printing and dyeing, papermaking, leather, pesticides, and daily chemicals.

Detailed Description

OS-15 (AEO-15), also known as Peregal OS-15 or Peregal O-15, has the CAS number 58265-74-0. It belongs to the fatty alcohol polyoxyethylene ether class of non-ionic surfactants. Its chemical structure is formed by the addition polymerization of C12-14 alcohols with 15 moles of ethylene oxide (EO). Therefore, it is also referred to as C12-14 alcohol polyoxyethylene (15) ether or polyoxyethylene (15) dodecyl to tetradecyl ether. At room temperature, the product appears as a white waxy solid with good water solubility and broad industrial applicability.

As a non-ionic surfactant, OS-15 is not affected by calcium and magnesium ions in water within the formulation system. It exhibits excellent hard water resistance and acid-base stability over a wide pH range. It demonstrates high emulsifying stability for various oil phases, significantly reducing the oil-water interfacial tension. It also possesses wetting ability that allows rapid spreading on solid surfaces, as well as dispersing functionality that effectively prevents particle aggregation and redeposition. Additionally, OS-15 can significantly enhance the apparent solubility of poorly soluble substances, providing greater flexibility in formulation design.

In terms of compatibility, OS-15 can be widely compounded with anionic, cationic, and other non-ionic surfactants to achieve synergistic effects and further improve overall application performance. This product is manufactured and supplied by Haian Guoli Chemical Co., Ltd. and is a commonly used multifunctional surfactant raw material in industrial formulations.

Main Uses

The core application areas of OS-15 (AEO-15) cover the following eight directions:

  • Industrial and Household Detergents: As a highly effective non-ionic surfactant, it significantly enhances detergency, emulsification, and dispersion capabilities, suitable for laundry liquids, dishwashing detergents, and hard surface cleaning formulations.
  • Textile Dyeing Leveling Agent: With excellent penetration and leveling properties, it helps dyes to be evenly distributed on fibers, reducing color spots and color differences, and improving dyeing quality.
  • Dispersant: It provides good dispersion and stabilization effects for solid particles such as pigments and fillers, widely used in coatings, inks, and dye processing to prevent agglomeration and sedimentation.
  • Papermaking Deinking Agent: In the waste paper deinking process, it promotes ink detachment and emulsification dispersion, improving fiber yield and pulp brightness.
  • Leather Processing Auxiliary: Used in leather soaking, degreasing, and fatliquoring processes to enhance penetration and emulsification effects, making leather soft, full, and pleasant to touch.
  • Metal Surface Cleaner: Effectively removes oil, cutting fluids, polishing pastes, and other contaminants from metal surfaces, performing better when used with ultrasonic or spray cleaning.
  • Cosmetic Emulsifier: As an O/W emulsifier in creams and lotions, it provides a fine and stable emulsion system and imparts good spreadability and skin feel.
  • Pesticide Emulsifier and Wetting Agent: Enhances the dispersion and wetting/spreading ability of active pesticide ingredients in water, improving the adhesion and penetration of the spray solution on plant leaves and insect surfaces.
