PEG400DO (Polyethylene Glycol 400 Dioleate, CAS No.: 9004-96-0) is a nonionic surfactant in the form of a light yellow to amber liquid, with good emulsifying, dispersing, and wetting properties. Its usage method is flexible and diverse, mainly depending on the target application field and formulation system. Due to its good tolerance to acidic/alkaline environments and hard water conditions, and its compatibility with anionic, cationic, and other nonionic surfactants, it offers high formulation flexibility in compounding.
In practice, PEG400DO can usually be directly added to the oil phase and stirred evenly, then mixed with the water phase for emulsification. Alternatively, it can be pre-mixed with the oil phase, and then slowly added to the water phase under stirring to form a stable oil-in-water (O/W) emulsion. For systems requiring high dispersion, it is recommended to use high-shear or homogenization equipment to achieve finer emulsion droplet sizes and better stability.

1. Heating Treatment: PEG400DO has increased viscosity at low temperatures. It is recommended to preheat it at 20°C~40°C before use to restore good fluidity for accurate metering and uniform dispersion.
2. Emulsification Process: When preparing emulsions, it is recommended to use the inverse emulsification method (phase inversion method) by adding the oil phase into the water phase. Under medium stirring speed, slowly pour the oil phase containing PEG400DO into the water phase to obtain a finer and more stable emulsion. For even smaller droplet sizes, subsequent homogenization treatment can be used.
3. Compounding Synergy: PEG400DO can be compounded with various surfactants. For example, combining with low HLB co-emulsifiers (such as sorbitan esters) can broaden the emulsification range. Compounding with anionic surfactants can improve the salt tolerance and dispersion stability of the system.
