Polypropylene glycol PPG-400 is a nonionic surfactant with excellent emulsifying, wetting, and dispersing properties, widely used in various fields such as polyurethane industry, synthetic lubricants, daily chemicals, and pharmaceuticals.
Detailed Description
Polypropylene glycol PPG-400 (CAS No.: 25322-69-4) is a nonionic surfactant obtained by catalytic polymerization of propylene oxide with propylene glycol. It appears as a colorless to slightly yellow transparent viscous liquid. The ether bonds and terminal hydroxyl groups in its molecular structure endow the product with unique solubility and reactivity, low hygroscopicity, and excellent compatibility with various organic solvents, resins, and polymers.
This product exhibits excellent chemical stability, performing well in acidic, alkaline, and hard water media, and is not prone to hydrolysis or failure. Moreover, its high primary hydroxyl content and moderate reactivity make it an ideal intermediate for the synthesis of polyurethanes, ester derivatives, and the like. In terms of safety, the product has low acute oral toxicity, is non-irritating to the skin, and non-sensitizing, meeting the application requirements of personal care and pharmaceutical fields.

Application Recommendations
Polypropylene glycol PPG-400 has a wide range of applications. Six core uses include:
- Polyurethane Industry: As a key soft segment component in flexible and rigid polyurethane foams, elastomers, coatings, and adhesives, imparting flexibility and hydrolysis resistance to the material.
- Synthetic Lubricants and Functional Fluids: Used as base oil or co-solvent in high-temperature lubricants, hydraulic fluids, and compressor oils, providing excellent lubricity and thermal stability.
- Surfactant/Emulsifier Intermediate: Widely used in the synthesis of nonionic surfactants for industrial cleaning, textile auxiliaries, and other fields.
- Personal Care and Cosmetics: Functions as a humectant, lubricant, and solubilizer in creams, lotions, and other products, improving skin feel and aiding in the dispersion of active ingredients.
- Pharmaceutical Applications: Used as a suppository base, ointment base, and drug solubilizer, with good biocompatibility.
- Other Industrial Uses: Can serve as a raw material for defoamers, a component of mold release agents, and a heat transfer fluid.
Precautions
- Store in a cool, ventilated, and dry place. Recommended temperature 0–40°C. Keep the container tightly closed to avoid moisture absorption.
- It is recommended to wear protective gloves and goggles during operation to avoid prolonged skin and eye contact.
- This product has a high flash point (≥200°C), but still needs to be kept away from open flames and high-temperature surfaces.
- Avoid contact with strong oxidizers to prevent hazardous reactions.
- For more safety information, refer to the Safety Data Sheet (SDS).
