Polypropylene glycol PPG-400 (CAS No.: 25322-69-4) is a nonionic surfactant, appearing as a colorless to slightly yellow transparent viscous liquid, with a molecular weight of about 380~420, and a hydroxyl value of 260~300 mgKOH/g. Its molecular structure contains primary hydroxyl groups and ether bonds, giving it excellent solubility, reactivity, and surface activity. The usage method varies greatly depending on the application scenario: In the polyurethane industry, PPG-400 directly participates in the polymerization reaction as a soft segment polyol component, typically reacting with isocyanates (such as TDI, MDI) and other polyols, catalysts, blowing agents, etc., according to the formula ratio; In the personal care and pharmaceutical fields, it can be directly added to the water phase or oil phase and stirred to dissolve, used as a humectant, lubricant, or solubilizer; In lubricants and industrial fluids, it can be used alone or compounded with other base oils.
Since PPG-400 is easily soluble in various solvents such as water, alcohols, esters, and ketones, solubility is usually not an issue in practical operations. It is recommended to slowly add it to the formulation system under stirring conditions to ensure uniform dispersion. If used for polyurethane synthesis, the moisture content must be strictly controlled (moisture of this product ≤0.1%) to avoid side reactions between water and isocyanates. The product has low foam characteristics, with a cloud point of about 50°C (1% aqueous solution), and the aqueous solution may become turbid when approaching or exceeding the cloud point temperature, so attention should be paid to the operating temperature conditions.
