Peregal O-25 is a nonionic surfactant synthesized by condensing natural fatty alcohol with ethylene oxide. Its chemical name is fatty alcohol polyoxyethylene (25) ether, and it is widely used in textile dyeing and printing, industrial cleaning, daily chemicals, and pesticides.

Detailed Description

Peregal O-25 (CAS No.: 68439-49-6), also known as leveling agent O-25 or emulsifier O-25, is a nonionic surfactant produced by the condensation reaction of natural fatty alcohol (mainly octadecanol) with 25 molecules of ethylene oxide. The product appears as a white to slightly yellow flake or block solid, with a melting point of 35~40°C. It is readily soluble in water, ethanol, acetone, and other organic solvents, but insoluble in petroleum ether. Its molecular structure contains highly stable ether bonds, which are not easily affected by acids, alkalis, or metal salts. It can be widely compounded with anionic, cationic, and amphoteric surfactants, exhibiting excellent compatibility. It is one of the core auxiliaries of Guoli Chemical.

Peregal O-25 has an HLB value of approximately 16.0~17.0, classifying it as a hydrophilic surfactant. Its cloud point is as high as 91.0~96.0°C, the critical micelle concentration (CMC) is about 1×10⁻⁵ mol/L, and the surface tension (0.1% aqueous solution, 25°C) is approximately 32 mN/m. These properties endow it with outstanding emulsification, dispersion, detergency, and leveling capabilities. It can effectively reduce the interfacial tension between oil and water, exhibiting strong emulsifying and dispersing effects on mineral oils, animal and vegetable oils, and waxes, forming stable oil-in-water (O/W) emulsions. Meanwhile, the product has moderate foam, making it easy to rinse at effective cleaning temperatures, which is beneficial for water and energy conservation.

This product is packaged in woven bags with an inner plastic liner, with a net weight of 20 kg/bag. It should be stored in a cool, dry, and well-ventilated warehouse. The shelf life is 24 months (from the date of production). After the expiration date, it can still be used if it passes re-inspection. It is recommended to dissolve it by stirring in hot water above 60°C or directly add it into a high-temperature working solution. It is advisable to pre-prepare a stock solution for precise metering and addition.

Application Recommendations

Textile Dyeing and Printing Industry

As a nonionic leveling agent, dispersant, and soaping agent, Peregal O-25 exhibits excellent leveling effects on direct dyes, vat dyes, acid dyes, and disperse dyes. It can slow down the dye uptake rate and prevent uneven dyeing. When used as a soaping agent in the after-treatment of reactive dye printing, its high-temperature and high-cloud-point characteristics enable strong removal of unfixed dyes without redeposition. The recommended dosage is typically 0.2~1.0 g/L.

Industrial and Household Cleaning

With its hydrophilic emulsifying properties (HLB value ~16.0~17.0), Peregal O-25 is a core raw material for formulating high-efficiency metal degreasers and hard surface cleaners. It can rapidly emulsify mineral oils, paraffin wax, vegetable oils, and mechanical greases, particularly suitable for spray, ultrasonic, and high-pressure hot water cleaning processes. It remains chemically stable in both acidic and alkaline cleaning systems and exhibits synergistic effects when compounded with anionic surfactants.

Cosmetics and Personal Care Products

As a mild O/W emulsifier and solubilizer, it is widely used in creams, lotions, shampoos, body washes, and makeup removers. The recommended dosage is 0.5%~5.0%, meeting diverse needs from thin emulsions to thick creams. With low irritation and high safety, it is also commonly used in baby care products and sensitive skin formulations.

Pesticide Formulation Processing

Suitable for formulating environmentally friendly pesticide formulations such as emulsions in water (EW), microemulsions (ME), and wettable powders (WP). It can significantly improve the wetting and spreading ability of the spray liquid on plant leaves and target surfaces, as well as enhance the cold and heat storage stability of the formulation.

Paper Sizing and Coating

Used as an efficient wetting agent and softening agent, it can reduce the surface tension of the pulp, promote uniform fiber dispersion, and improve the evenness and smoothness of the paper sheet.
