Peregal O-50/100 is a high-degree-of-polymerization nonionic surfactant produced by the addition polymerization of natural fatty alcohols (C₁₆~C₁₈) with ethylene oxide (EO). When the EO addition number is approximately 50, it is called O-50; when approximately 100, it is called O-100. It is a class of O/W emulsifiers, dispersants, and leveling agents with excellent performance.

Detailed Description

Peregal O-50/100, chemically known as fatty alcohol polyoxyethylene ether (CAS No.: 68439-49-6), belongs to the fatty alcohol polyoxyethylene ether (AEO) series with a high EO addition number. Peregal O-50 is a white to slightly yellow waxy solid, easily soluble in hot water and dispersible in cold water; Peregal O-100 is a white to slightly yellow flaky or granular solid, easily soluble in water to form a transparent solution. Both are produced by the ethoxylation of natural C₁₆~C₁₈ fatty alcohols, are non-toxic, non-irritating, and have good biodegradability.

The core advantage of this product lies in its extremely long polyoxyethylene chain segment, which endows the product with very high hydrophilicity and excellent steric stabilization ability. The strong steric hindrance effect provided by the ultra-long EO chain gives it strong emulsifying power for mineral oils, vegetable oils, fatty acids, and waxes. The resulting emulsion has fine particle size and outstanding stability over time. Compared with AEO products with low EO numbers, Peregal O-50/100 has extremely low foaming (almost non-foaming) and maintains stable performance over a wide pH range and in high-concentration salt and hard water environments. Its electrolyte and hard water resistance surpasses that of most conventional nonionic surfactants.

Peregal O-50/100 has good compatibility with anionic, cationic, and other nonionic surfactants. By forming mixed micelles, it produces synergistic effects, enhancing the cost-effectiveness of the overall formulation. The product meets modern green chemical and sustainable development environmental requirements and can be safely used in consumer formulations that involve indirect contact with the human body.

Application Suggestions

Textile Dyeing and Printing Field: Peregal O-100, with its high HLB value and high cloud point, exhibits excellent leveling properties in high-temperature dyeing of polyester and acrylic fibers, effectively preventing color spots. Peregal O-50 is more suitable for medium-temperature dyeing of blended fabrics and pretreatment scouring and penetration of cotton fabrics. O-100 can also be used for wool scouring, gently and efficiently removing oil and grease dirt while avoiding felting shrinkage.

Cosmetics Industry: Peregal O-50 is suitable for emulsifying various oil-phase components, enabling the preparation of fine and stable skin creams and lotions. Peregal O-100 can serve as a cream stabilizer and solubilizer, efficiently and transparently solubilizing fragrances and lipophilic active ingredients into an aqueous system.

Pesticide Formulation: The combination of both products is an excellent nonionic component for preparing emulsifiable concentrates of organophosphorus and pyrethroid pesticides. Peregal O-100 provides strong steric stabilization, maintaining uniform suspension of fine droplets of active ingredients in emulsions in water and microemulsions.

Metalworking and Industrial Cleaning: Peregal O-50 is used for emulsifying semi-synthetic cutting fluids and rolling oils. Peregal O-100 enhances the electrolyte resistance of rust-proof emulsifying oils. The combination of both is used for heavy-duty hard surface cleaning in high-speed railways, ships, and construction machinery, offering strong synergistic detergency.

Other Applications: Widely used in paper deinking agents, AKD sizing agent emulsification, leather soaking and degreasing, and emulsion polymerization (vinyl acetate/acrylate systems).

Usage Methods and Precautions

Dissolution Method: It is recommended to slowly add this product to 40~60°C hot water, stirring continuously until completely dissolved before incorporating into the formulation. Peregal O-100 can also be directly dispersed and dissolved in water at room temperature. It is recommended to determine the optimal dosage through small-scale tests.

Safety Tips: This product is not classified as a physical hazard category; it is non-toxic and non-irritating to the skin. Avoid contact with eyes and skin during operation, and wash thoroughly after handling. Store in a cool and dry place, with temperature preferably not exceeding 40°C, away from direct sunlight and strong oxidizers. In case of skin contact, rinse with plenty of water and soap for at least 15 minutes. For eye contact, flush thoroughly with clean water for at least 15 minutes. If discomfort persists, seek medical attention.
