The main component of Peregal O-50/100 is fatty alcohol polyoxyethylene ether (addition polymer of C₁₆~C₁₈ fatty alcohol and ethylene oxide)

Detailed Description

Peregal O-50/100 belongs to the fatty alcohol polyoxyethylene ether (AEO) series of nonionic surfactants, whose systematic chemical name is polyethylene glycol fatty alcohol ether. The product is prepared by catalytic addition polymerization of natural fatty alcohols (carbon chain distribution C₁₆~C₁₈, i.e., hexadecanol to octadecanol) with ethylene oxide (EO). The international common chemical description of the product is Alcohols, C16-18, ethoxylated, with CAS number 68439-49-6.

Based on different ethylene oxide addition numbers, the product is divided into two specifications: when the EO addition number is about 50, it corresponds to Peregal O-50 (white to slightly yellow waxy solid); when the EO addition number is about 100, it corresponds to Peregal O-100 (white to slightly yellow flakes or granular solid). The extremely long polyoxyethylene chain segment (-(CH₂CH₂O)ₙ-) endows the product with extremely high hydrophilicity and excellent steric stabilization ability.

The general molecular structure formula of the product can be expressed as RO(CH₂CH₂O)ₙH, where R represents the C₁₆~C₁₈ alkyl chain, n is the average molar number of EO addition (n≈50 or n≈100). The component is non-toxic, non-irritating, and has good biodegradability, belonging to environmentally friendly nonionic surfactants.

Application Suggestions

Based on its core component characteristics of fatty alcohol polyoxyethylene ether, Peregal O-50/100, with the excellent performance imparted by the ultra-long EO segments, is widely applicable to the following scenarios:

  • Textile Printing and Dyeing: Peregal O-100 is suitable for high-temperature and high-pressure level dyeing of polyester and acrylic fibers; Peregal O-50 is suitable for cotton fabric scouring penetrant and medium-temperature dyeing of blended fabrics.
  • Emulsion Polymerization: As an O/W emulsifier and stabilizer for systems such as vinyl acetate and acrylate.
  • Pesticide Formulations: Used as an emulsifying and stabilizing component in emulsions in water, microemulsions, and suspension concentrates.
  • Industrial Cleaning and Metalworking: Used in semi-synthetic cutting fluids, rolling oil emulsifiers, and low-foam cleaning formulations.
  • Cosmetics Industry: As an emulsifier and solubilizer for O/W creams and lotions.

Precautions

  • During compounding, it is recommended to slowly add the product into 40~60°C hot water with continuous stirring until fully dissolved, then incorporate into the formulation system.
  • Store in a cool, dry, and well-ventilated place, with a recommended temperature not exceeding 40°C. Avoid direct sunlight and keep away from strong oxidants.
  • The product is non-toxic and non-irritating, but it is recommended to wear gloves and goggles during handling to avoid prolonged direct contact.
  • Peregal O-100 can be directly dispersed and dissolved in water at room temperature, while Peregal O-50 requires hot water for dissolution.
