Polypropylene glycol PPG-600 is a non-ionic polymer with high safety. According to GHS standards, it is not classified as a hazardous substance or mixture. Its acute oral toxicity is low (rat LD₅₀ > 2,000 mg/kg), making it a low-toxicity substance; it is non-irritating to the skin, has a flash point above 200°C (closed cup), is not flammable at normal operating temperatures, and is not classified as dangerous goods for transportation. These characteristics make PPG-600 relatively safe in industrial applications, but this does not mean that safety operating procedures can be completely ignored.
In actual use, three main aspects require attention: first, eye contact may cause mild discomfort (such as redness and tearing), and it is recommended to wear chemical safety goggles to prevent splashes; second, prolonged or repeated skin contact may cause skin defatting, so it is recommended to wear nitrile or neoprene protective gloves and wash hands carefully after operation; third, although the flash point is high, the product can still burn at high temperatures and release toxic fumes such as carbon monoxide, aldehydes, and ketones. Therefore, ensure good ventilation and keep away from open flames during heating processes.
For storage, PPG-600 should be kept in a cool, dry, and well-ventilated environment, with a recommended storage temperature of 5°C to 40°C. Special attention should be paid to the fact that low temperatures may cause the product to thicken or even solidify; before use, it should be warmed to room temperature and stirred evenly. It should also be kept away from strong oxidizing agents (such as peroxides, perchlorates, nitric acid) and strong acids to prevent violent reactions. Recommended packaging containers include stainless steel, carbon steel, or polypropylene, and they should be sealed to prevent moisture absorption and contamination.
| Safety Indicator | Parameter Value | Description |
|---|---|---|
| GHS Hazard Classification | Non-hazardous substance | No classification required per GHS standards |
| Acute Oral Toxicity (Rat) | LD₅₀ > 2,000 mg/kg | Low toxicity substance |
| Skin Irritation | Non-irritating | Prolonged contact may cause defatting |
| Eye Irritation | Mild discomfort | Possible redness and tearing |
| Flash Point (Closed Cup) | > 200°C | Not flammable under normal operating temperatures |
| Recommended Storage Temperature | 5°C to 40°C | Low temperatures may cause solidification |
| Transport Classification | Non-dangerous goods | Per UN transport recommendations |
Although PPG-600 is not classified as dangerous goods and is generally safe, explosion-proof equipment should still be used and preventive measures maintained during high-temperature processes. The product may produce toxic fumes when burning; firefighters should wear self-contained positive-pressure breathing apparatus and full protective gear, and use carbon dioxide, dry powder, foam, or water mist for extinguishing; do not use straight water streams. Waste disposal should follow local regulations; incineration or recycling at qualified waste treatment facilities is recommended. Do not discharge directly into waterways or soil.
